Brick repointing
Joints raked out to a minimum of 15–20 mm, dust cleaned out, wall dampened, then repointed in a 4:1 or 5:1 sand and cement mix matched to the colour and texture of your existing joints. Struck to the profile already on the house — weather struck, bucket handle, flush or recessed.

Period properties
Lime pointing
For Victorian, Edwardian and older homes built with soft brick and lime mortar. Cement pointing on these walls traps moisture and blows the face off the brick. We use natural hydraulic lime (NHL 3.5) or a lime putty mix depending on exposure, and protect the work from frost and fast drying while it cures.

Roof level
Chimney repointing
Stacks take the worst of the weather and are usually the source of a damp patch on a bedroom wall. We repoint the stack, renew cracked flaunching around the pots, re-bed loose pots and check the lead flashings and back gutter while we're up there. Worked from a scaffold tower or roof ladders with proper edge protection.

Stone
Stone pointing
Coursed and random stone walls, cottages, barn conversions and boundary walls. Style matters more on stone — we match the existing finish, whether that's flush, slightly recessed or ribbon, and use lime wherever the wall is solid or older. Loose stones re-bedded as we go.

Ground level
Patio & paving pointing
Indian stone, concrete flags, block edging and setts. Old joints dug out and pressure washed, then re-pointed in a slurry jointing compound or semi-dry mortar depending on joint width and drainage. Sealed on request. Weeds and ants lose their gap.

Repairs
Brick replacement & repairs
Cutting out spalled, cracked or frost-damaged bricks and bedding in matching replacements — reclaimed where the wall is old — before repointing so the finished wall looks like one piece of work. Also crack stitching with helical bars, air-brick renewal, weep vents and pier or gate-post rebuilds.

Before you call
Does my house need lime or cement?
Roughly: built before 1920 with soft red brick and it was almost certainly built with lime — it should be repointed in lime. Later cavity-wall houses were built with cement mortar and can be repointed in cement. Scott checks the existing mortar on the survey and tells you which applies.
How long does repointing last?
Done properly — raked out to depth, packed and struck — cement pointing should give 30 to 50 years, lime longer. Pointing smeared over the old mortar fails in one to five. We guarantee our workmanship for ten years in writing.
Can you match the mortar colour?
Yes. We test small mixes against your existing joints using different sands and, where needed, pigment, and let a sample dry before committing. Fresh mortar always dries lighter than it goes on, so we never judge it wet.
Do I need scaffolding?
Ground and first floor can usually be done from a tower. Full elevations on a three-storey house, or chimneys on steep roofs, may need a scaffold — we'll say so in the quote and arrange it.
What about the mess?
Raking out is dusty. We use extraction on grinders, sheet windows, doors and planting, and wash the wall and paths down at the end of each day. All waste goes with us.
How do I pay?
On completion, once you've walked the work with Scott. Bank transfer or card. No deposit on jobs under a week.
