Repointing in Irlam

Irlam and Cadishead were built for the steelworks and the Ship Canal, and the housing is mostly inter-war and post-war semis with the older Victorian terraces closer to Liverpool Road. Brick all through, cement pointing all through. The flat, open ground off the canal means the wind gets at the west and south-west elevations, and that is where the pointing goes.

We do full fronts and gables here, replace frost-spalled bricks and re-bed cills. The lower courses near the canal and the mosses can be damp from the ground rather than the pointing; we'll tell you which. About forty-five minutes from Rochdale.
