Repointing in Tyldesley

Tyldesley and Astley are old pit villages that grew into towns, and the terraces around Elliott Street, Shuttle Street and Mosley Common are late-Victorian brick built for colliery families. Straightforward cement repointing, usually a front or a gable at a time, with the odd cracked lintel from old mining settlement to stitch while we are there.

Shakerley and the older corners have stone cottages that want lime rather than cement, and the inter-war semis along the A577 are the usual bays and chimneys. Ground movement from old workings is a Tyldesley thing — if a crack is structural rather than a pointing problem, we'll say so. About thirty-five minutes from Rochdale.
