Repointing in Ashton-under-Lyne

The bulk of Ashton's housing is Victorian and Edwardian red brick — the grid of terraces around Hurst, Waterloo, Ryecroft and the town centre — with stone cills, stone door surrounds and, on the better streets, a course or two of decorative brick. Cement repointing in a bucket-handle or weather-struck finish is right for these and it's most of what we do in the town.

Out towards Hartshead and the Pennine edge the walls turn to stone, and the mix turns to lime. Full front elevations and street runs are common here where neighbours club together, and chimneys on the older terraces are often repointed from a tower alongside the gable. Half an hour from Rochdale.
